The Oklahoma Choral Directors Association is launching an All-State Show Choir in 2018-2019. The first performance is set for July, 2019 at state convention.

Audition materials will be available in the fall of 2018

Registration deadline will be December 2018

Video auditions will be submitted in the spring of 2019

 

Some preliminary decisions, subject to change, as plans advance:
          1. Interested students will submit on-line audtions using a standard video format.

          2. OkCDA will provide rehearsal tracts and video for choreography.

          3. A panel of judges will review the videos to select the 2019 summer All-State Show Choir members.

 


         Doran Johnson. Clinician/Conductor
                2019 All-State Show Choir

 

 

          Currently in his thirtieth year as a music educator, Doran Johnson is the Choral Director and Performing Arts Department Chair at Westside High School in Omaha.  Under his leadership, Westside ensembles have developed a national reputation, earning top honors at many events.  The Westside Warrior Choir has performed with the Omaha Symphony on several occasions and has been awarded superior ratings at District Music Contest.  The Amazing Technicolor Show Choir has been a consistent finalist at competitive events across the country, garnering Best Vocals, Best Choreography and Best Band awards.  Johnson has also served as a mentor to many student teachers from various institutions.

          Johnson holds the Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Northern Iowa and the Master of Music degree from the University of Nebraska–Omaha.  He has served as Chair of Choral Affairs for NebMEA and currently serves as Music Coordinator for District 2 of the NSAA.   Johnson is also on the staff of the Nebraska Show Choir Camp and has served as an assistant conductor for several Midwest Honor Choir European tours.

          Johnson has been honored with the Phelps Excellence in Teaching Award, the Distinguished Teaching Award from the Schrager Foundation, the Lundquist Award for Excellence in Teaching, and received the inaugural BRAVO Award from the Westside Foundation.  In 2012, he was honored as Educator of the Year by the Nebraska Music Educators Association and in 2016 received the Chapman Outstanding Director Award at Show Choir Nationals.

 

 

                                                                                                  

 

Stephen Todd

Choreographer for 2019
All-State Show Choir

STEPHEN TODD is originally from Mitchell, South Dakota.  He is a graduate of Millikin University with a degree in Music Theatre and a minor in Dance and earned his Master’s Degree from the University of Nebraska in Vocal Performance.  Stephen is a proud member of the Actors Equity Association and has been featured in productions all across the country such as Pippin, Titanic, and Footloose.  He joined the Broadway National Tour of Kiss Me Kate, and was in the Branson, MO version of It’s A Wonderful Life, as George Bailey.  He was a featured soloist for an evening of songs by Tony Award winning composer Steven Lutvak and most recently was seen in NewYork City in the show, You're Going to Hate This. Stephen has worked with, adjudicated and choreographed award-winning show choirs all over the US.
